Ellen DeGeneres did a lot of playing around with the audience during the 2014 Oscars telecast, ordering pizza, sharing it with the stars (including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), and asking Harvey Weinstein to fork over money for the tip. She also sat in a few empty chairs and just made her way around the first few rows talking to Oscar nominees and other celebs who had the choice seats right up front. But easily the most talked about moment of the night as far as DeGeneres’ duties as a host were concerned came when she decided to take a selfie with a few of the A-listers and Tweet the photo. The resulting photo proceeded to break Twitter. That’s right, Twitter went down in the middle of the Oscar broadcast which wasn’t good news for all of those actively tweeting the show.
Not only did the photo temporarily break Twitter, it also set a new record as the most re-tweeted tweet. As I type this it has over 2.2 million re-tweets and that number’s still growning. And in case you’re wondering who that is peeking in on the left side of the photo next to Jennifer Lawrence, it’s Oscar-winner Jared Leto.
