Monopoly players will be saying goodbye to one of the game’s eight tokens based on an online vote taking place now through February 5, 2013. Hasbro’s set to retire one of its current tokens – either the Scottie dog, race car, top hat, iron, thimble, shoe, battleship, or wheelbarrow – and replace it with a new, more contemporary token later this year.

Monopoly fans will also be able to vote on what token will take over for the retired token. New designs in the running to be added to the game are a diamond ring, guitar, toy robot, cat, and a helicopter.

“The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game, and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favorite one,” stated Eric Nyman, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader for Hasbro Gaming. “When we decided to replace one of the tokens in the game, we knew we had to involve our fans in the process. We can’t wait to see which iconic piece will ‘go to jail’ and which new token the fans will choose to become part of one of the world’s most popular games.”

Games with the new token will be available in mid-2013.
