Universal Pictures’ Les Misérables is breaking new ground. The actors all sang live on set, with a pianist there to provide the music. It was an amazing experience for cast members Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and Eddie Redmayne who say that being able to sing while on set took their acting to a whole new level.

In this behind-the-scenes video, the cast and director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) discuss the experience and how it affected them while working on Les Misérables.

The Plot:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
