Variety’s reporting Bill Condon has been tapped to direct a live-action version of Disney’s animated tale Beauty and the Beast. Evan Spiliotopoulos is working on a script for the Disney film, which will be based on the Oscar-nominated 1991 animated movie.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast isn’t the only project based on the classic story that’s in the works. Guillermo del Toro has been attached to a version of the story set up at Warner Bros Pictures and with Emma Watson eyed to play the ‘Beauty’ part of the tale. And, of course, The CW is currently airing a Beauty and the Beast series that’s a contemporary take on the story.

Condon’s known to millions of sparkling vampire fans as the director of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2, but his filmography is actually pretty diverse. In addition to the Twilight movies, Condon’s directed Dreamgirls, Kinsey, Gods and Monsters, and The Fifth Estate.
