Francis Lawrence is Named Director of the Year by CinemaCon

The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015 CinemaCon Director of the Year Award. Announcing the award, CinemaCon Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser said, “Since making his feature film debut ten years ago, Francis Lawrence has mesmerized moviegoing audiences with his own unique and inventive style. A true visionary, Lawrence is sure to captivate audiences next fall when The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the eagerly anticipated finale of the box-office franchise, hits our theaters. We couldn’t think of a more deserving director and are thrilled to be honoring him with the ‘CinemaCon Director of the Year Award.’”

The annual gathering of members of the National Association of Theatre Owners will take place April 20 – 23 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, with the Big Screen Achievement Awards set to take place on the convention’s final day.

Lawrence’s feature film credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Mockingjay – Part 2 finishes up The Hunger Games franchise when it opens in theaters on November 20th.

CinemaCon will also be honoring Elizabeth Banks (Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year), Britt Robertson (2015 Star of Tomorrow), Amy Schumer (Breakthrough Performer of the Year), Julianne Moore (CinemaCon Vanguard Award), and Kevin Hart (Comedy Star of the Year).
