Lifetime’s moving forward on six episodes of Damien, a follow-up to the 1976 film The Omen which was directed by Richard Donner from a script by David Seltzer. The Omen is still one of the scariest horror films around, and back in 1977, it earned Seltzer a Writers Guild nomination and an Oscar for Best Original Score.

A theatrical sequel, Damien: Omen II, was released in 1978 featuring the devil’s son as a teenager. That film, which made half as much at the box office as the original movie, was followed by Omen II: The Final Conflict in 1981 and the TV movie Omen IV: The Awakening in 1991.

Damien will be written by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead). Mazzara will also executive produce along with Ross Fineman and Pancho Mansfield. Lifetime’s aiming for a 2015 premiere.

“We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen. Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original,” said Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime.

Fox Television Studios Senior Vice President, Programming, Nancy Cotton added, “The Omen is a jewel in the crown of the Fox features library; we’re gratified and eager to bring a new iteration of Damien and this iconic story to television – and to a new audience – through the vision of Glen Mazzara.”

The Plot:

The series follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 motion picture who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny — that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.
